‘The Acolyte’s Wookiee Jedi Kelnacca Getting His Own One-Shot Comic
Fans are excited to see Kelnacca make his debut as our first live action Wookiee Jedi on The Acolyte next week, and Lucasfilm has announced he’ll be getting his own one-shot comic later this year.
In an io9 exclusive, the comic will be arriving on September 4 and will be written by Cavan Scott, who is the author of many High Republic novels and comics, such as The High Republic main comic series, The Rising Storm, Tempest Runner and Path of Vengeance. Art is by Marika Cresta, who has worked on Doctor Aphra and multiple High Republic comics.
The cover art has been revealed for the issue, with the official artwork along with two alternatives. The official one was created by Phil Noto, the second by Björn Barends and the third by Takashi Okazaki, who worked on the Star Wars Visions comics and other Star Wars variant covers.
We don’t know much about the story, other than that the cover art says it takes place in the High Republic era. It seems unlikely that the comic will take place after the events of The Acolyte, although the series would be finished by the time it arrives so there would be nothing to spoil at that point.
It seems more likely that it will be set before the events of The Acolyte, particularly as Wookiees can live for hundreds of years and we have no idea how old Kelnacca is by the time of the show. It would be interesting to see if Kelnacca is a Jedi during the time of the current High Republic books and comics, to see him fighting against the Nihil pirates like fellow Acolyte alum Vernestra Rwoh.
