‘The Acolyte’ Cost $180M for Eight Episodes; Featurette Showcases Generational Bonds Between Cast

A report from The New York Times indicates that Star Wars: The Acolyte has a net budget of $180M for eight episodes, or an average spend of $22.5M per episode. In addition, a new featurette, showcasing the cast and crew talking about what their experiences with Star Wars have been like, has been released.

That budgetary figure includes the previously-mentioned $49.2M spent on pre-production, which means that the remaining $130.8M was divided between production and post-production costs. In terms of how the $180M spend for The Acolyte Season 1 compares to the budgets on other Star Wars shows, Skeleton Crew came in at $136M for an unspecified number of episodes, while Andor Season 1 is the most expensive Star Wars show by far with a $250M spend for twelve episodes (which puts it at a similar episodic spend to The Acolyte at a little over $20.83M per episode).

Other details of note in the report indicate that iconic repeated Star Wars phrases “May the Force be with you!” and “I’ve got a bad feeling about this…” will be making an appearance in the series, along with confirmation that the bar fight between Jedi Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Mae (Amandla Stenberg) happens near the beginning of the first episode.

In addition, Rotten Tomatoes has shared a new featurette about The Acolyte, which focuses on the generational appeal of Star Wars while showcasing the bonds between the characters in a timeless, futuristic setting, with plenty of footage from the series showcasing the practical sets merging seamlessly with digital effects. The cast and crew certainly seem to have bonded over the experience of filming, based on their interactions behind the scenes. Check it out below:

Star Wars: The Acolyte begins streaming on Disney Plus on June 4, 2024 with a two-episode premiere. The show is intended to run for multiple seasons, and a second season is presently in active development with a writers’ room.
