‘Star Wars’ Sequel Trilogy Movies Returning to London’s BFI IMAX Cinema

The British Film Institute (BFI) revealed that they will be showing screenings of The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker at the IMAX cinema in London on Saturday, July 6.

Tickets are already on sale, for both BFI members and the general public. The BFI IMAX is the largest cinema screen in the United Kingdom (but not in the world, as that accolade belongs to the Traumplast Leonberg IMAX in Germany), which probably makes it the best place to watch the sequel trilogy for Star Wars fans based in the UK.

The Force Awakens screening will start at 11am, The Last Jedi at 2:10pm and The Rise of Skywalker at 5:30pm. The marathon day will last at least 8 hours and 52 minutes (not counting time spent on any commercials or trailers shown before each film) with presumably a decent break between films.

It’s a surprise to be sure, considering this will come a month after The Acolyte has debuted, so it’s presumably not part of the new series’ marketing plan. The film is in esteemed company though as the BFI looks to show both old and new sci-fi movies, as the trilogy arrives after a month of high profile screenings including the latest two Mad Max films, both Avatar films, Insterstellar, Dune: Part Two, the season finale of Doctor Who and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

Now if only they’d announce that they’re also going to screen the first two episodes of The Acolyte there before its Disney Plus release…
