New ‘Star Wars’ Collectible Provides Insight into ‘New Jedi Order’ Rey After ‘The Rise of Skywalker’

No one was expecting to get insight into Rey’s mind after the events of The Rise of Skywalker quite so soon before promotion begins on her New Jedi Order film, but we’ve got the closest thing to it.

In a YouTube video uploaded by Nick Tierce, and well reported by Gizmodo, the kyber crystal collectibles in Disneyland — which combine with holocrons to reveal the thoughts of various Jedi and Sith characters — has released a new crystal specifically for Rey, so we get to hear her thoughts on the events of the sequel trilogy and how they inform her future. These quotes can be heard in the video below.

The quotes have her reflecting on her newfound heritage, explaining why she named herself “Skywalker”, the lessons she took from Ben Skywalker and her plans on how to rebuild the Jedi Order.

I came from something evil. Sometimes I still want to run from that. But I have learned there are things stronger than blood and that the smallest light can push back the deepest darkness.

Luke Skywalker was my master. So was his sister Leia. And her son, Ben, gave his life for me. I took the Skywalker name to honor them and their legacy.

Ben was right about letting go of the past. But not about killing it. My task is to make something new. Not by killing the past but by building on all that’s good in it.

The early Jedi sought to bind the galaxy’s wounds. They looked at what was broken and saw how to fix it. When I read that I thought, ‘Well, I’m good at that already.’

Maybe you’ve heard. I’m all the Jedi. So I’ve got that going for me.

I’m Rey, Rey Skywalker.

These all sound pretty believable. It’s easy to imagine Rey saying these things as she looks towards the future of the Jedi and back at her learnings with fresh optimism, and official merch is the closest thing we have to official canon until New Jedi Order hits theatres.

However, it’s entirely possible that this merch could be contradicted immediately when the new film comes out, so take this with a pinch of salt. It does feel unlikely that new stories would contradict this line of thinking from Rey though, as it feels pretty true to her character.

Nick Tierce also confirmed that these lines were recorded two years ago, before the Rey movie was announced. So really it’s not connected to the film at all, but we can infer from this that this is the general direction Lucasfilm were leaning with Rey before the film became a reality.

The other quotes from the Rey kyber crystal are less exciting, but they do catch her reflecting on the events of The Last Jedi and her early life on Jakku:

When I met Luke Skywalker, I offered him his lightsaber and he tossed it away. But the Force doesn’t always make things easy. So you keep trying, that’s all you can do.

The Force is so much bigger than any creed, any philosophy, anything that can fit in a bunch of books. Master Skywalker taught me that in his first lesson on Ahch-To. I knew right away I’d never forget it. That I’d never be the same.

I grew up in the desert and yet every night I dreamt of an island. A tiny dot in an endless sea. I saw it so clearly. But I never imagined it might be real. Real. And waiting for me.

I’ve studied the sacred texts of the Jedi. Do you know what the most important pages are? It’s the blank ones left at the end because those ancient teachers knew the lessons weren’t finished and never could be.

It’s not the New Jedi Order news we thought we’d be getting in 2024, but it’s a welcome surprise nonetheless.
