Hot Toys Reveals Darth Sidious, Mandalorian Armor Obi-Wan, and Imperial Commando at Power of the Dark Side Event

Hot Toys’ Power of the Dark Side event continues today with three new figures including the long-awaited Revenge of the Sith Darth Sidious. Joining the galactic Emperor are two more limited edition exclusives, Obi-Wan Kenobi in his Mandalorian armor from The Clone Wars and the Imperial Commando from The Bad Batch.

Revealing the Dark Lord of the Sith on Facebook earlier today, Hot Toys wrote:

“Unlimited power!” – Darth Sidious

Scheming, powerful, and evil to the core, Darth Sidious restored the Sith and destroyed the Jedi Order. Living a double life, he was also Palpatine, a Naboo Senator and phantom menace. He manipulated the political system of the Galactic Republic until he was named Supreme Chancellor — and eventually Emperor – and ruled the galaxy through fear and tyranny.

Expanding Hot Toys’ Star Wars dark side collection, Hot Toys is pleased to introduce the new 1/6th scale collectible figure of Darth Sidious the most infamous Sith of them all!

The highly detailed collectible figure is masterfully created featuring a newly developed head sculpt with a menacing likeness and separate rolling eyeballs system allowing positionable eye line, finely tailored outfit, a LED light-up Lightsaber™ powered by USB, Force lightning effects, and a figure base!

The SPECIAL EDITION available in selected markets, comes with a Darth Sidious commemorative coin. In addition, this coin has a unique style that is exclusive to those who pre-order this figure at Hot Toys x “Star Wars: The Power of The Dark Side” exhibition in Hong Kong.

The power of your Star Wars dark side collection will grow with the addition of this new 1/6th scale Darth Sidious collectible figure!

On a personal note, this figure is one I’ve been waiting for since I got back into collecting 1:6 scale and I’m delighted to say that Hot Toys did not disappoint. Their current head sculpts continue to be some of their best work with the Star Wars license, with the sculpt here perfectly capturing Ian McDiarmid’s deliciously evil grin during Sidious’ climatic duel with Yoda.

Speaking of Yoda, some of the product photos do feature Palpatine’s “little green friend”. This is almost certainly just the long sold-out Attack of the Clones version from 2019, but with Revenge of the Sith’s 20th anniversary next year, I would love to see them release a new Yoda to go with Sidious.

Whilst the figure is a little light on accessories, he comes with everything you need for the character – standard and LED lightsabers, static and motion blades, and a variety of hands including Palpatine’s signature force lightning.

Like many other figures announced for the Power of the Dark Side event, Darth Sidious comes in three versions. A standard release available through most specialty retailers, a Special Edition featuring a gold collectible coin available from select partner retailers, including Sideshow in the US, and an event exclusive edition featuring a red collectible coin only available to fans pre-ordering in person at the event.

Alongside Sidious, Hot Toys announced two limited edition exclusive figures that will only be available to those at the event or through Hot Toys’ partner retailers internationally.

The first exclusive was Obi-Wan Kenobi in his Mandalorian armor from “The Lawless” episode of The Clone Wars.

In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Duchess Satine was imprisoned by Maul on Mandalore and when Obi-Wan Kenobi learned of the news, he was determined to rescue her and used a Mandalorian armor as a disguise to infiltrate the facility.

Continuing with the Star Wars: The Clone Wars collection, Hot Toys is excited to introduce the 1/6th scale collectible figure of Obi-Wan Kenobi in Mandalorian armor! This is an Hot Toys exclusive item available in a limited quantity of 2,000 pieces, exclusively in select markets.

The collectible figure features a detailed head sculpt with amazing likeness and rolling eyeball function allowing positionable eye line, meticulously crafted helmet and armor with weathering effects, a jetpack, two blasters, LED light-up Lightsaber™ powered by USB, and a display base.

Star Wars fans, don’t pass up on the opportunity to collect this special Obi-Wan (Mandalorian Armor) figure!

This may be Hot Toys’ best choice yet for an exclusive at this event. It’s a popular look for a major character, not just a chrome repaint, but at the same time, it’s not a figure most would consider essential.

The figure re-uses the head sculpt from the Clone Wars Obi-Wan figure, which is just releasing in Hong Kong at the moment, so it’s not quite on the level of some of their more recent reveals but is still a good likeness to Ewan McGregor as he appeared in Revenge of the Sith.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Mandalorian Armor) is a limited edition of just 2,000 and will be on sale via Sideshow on Friday at 10am PST.

The second exclusive revealed was the Imperial Commando from The Bad Batch.

Continuing the expansion of Hot Toys’ Star Wars collectible series, Hot Toys is pleased to introduce the new 1/6th scale Imperial Commando collectible figure as seen in the animated series! This Hot Toys exclusive item is available in limited quantities of 2,500 pieces, exclusively in select markets.

The collectible figure features a highly detailed armor with white and grey paint applications, a helmet with LED light-up function, a blaster rifle, a thermal detonator, a backpack, and a display base!

This trooper will surely be a great addition for any Star Wars fans!

Making army builders an exclusive, even in 1:6 scale, is an odd choice to me. Whilst very few people truly army build in this scale, there are plenty who love to buy at least two of popular troopers and Hot Toys’ own production photos feature multiple in some shots.

That aside, I think the figure looks great and I absolutely love that they have made the helmet light up for this figure. It’s touches like this which really help set 1:6 scale apart and it just adds such a cool effect.

The Imperial Commando is a limited edition of just 2,500 and will be on sale via Sideshow tomorrow at 1pm PST.

Darth Sidious is available for pre-order now from Sideshow and other retailers. The Special Edition with the collectible coin is exclusive to Sideshow. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Mandalorian Armor) and the Imperial Commando are Sideshow exclusive within the US and go up for pre-order tomorrow. Links and galleries for all are below.
