‘The Acolyte’ Rumor: David Harewood Joins the Cast In Small Role

A new name has been added to the cast of The Acolyte less than two months before the series release. On this week’s episode of The Hot Mic, a Hollywood inside-baseball podcast hosted by John Rocha and Jeff Sneider, Sneider revealed that David Harewood, known for his role in The CW’s Supergirl series, will have a small role in the new Star Wars series. (You can watch the stream below.)

Harewood played the Martian Manhunter in The CW series, as well as cameos in other CW-adjacent shows like The Flash or Arrow. He also appeared in a couple of episodes of the long-running television series Doctor Who, along with the films The Merchant of Venice and Blood Diamond, and even video games like Battlefield 3 and Alan Wake II.

Harewood thus joins the star-studded cast of The Acolyte, with names like Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, Carrie-Anne Moss, Margarita Levieva, Amy Tsang, and Abigail Thorn rounding out the list of talent.

The Acolyte is set 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, and is built around a mystery-thriller narrative tied to the forces of the Dark Side regaining a foothold while the Jedi of the High Republic pursue them at the end of an era. The series was created by Leslye Headland and is intended to potentially go on for multiple seasons.

The series is set to premiere on Disney Plus on June 4, at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET / June 5 at 2 PM BST, with the first two episodes, and a weekly release schedule for the remaining six episodes after that. A new look at the series will be attached to screenings of The Phantom Menace when it’s re-released in theaters on the weekend of May 3.
