‘Tales of the Empire’ Clip Showcases Morgan Elsbeth’s Encounter With General Grievous

A new clip from Star Wars: Tales of the Empire has arrived, showcasing Morgan Elsbeth’s encounter with General Grievous during a Nightsister massacre on Dathomir.

The spiritual successor to the anthology series Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi (which itself is getting a second season at some point in the future) is hitting the ground running by with a story that is, oddly enough, not one of the Tales of the Empire, but of the midst of the Clone Wars.

One of the first shorts greatly expands upon the backstory of Morgan Elsbeth (portrayed in both animation and live-action by Diana Lee Inosanto), who was first seen in the second season of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and later in the first season of Star Wars: Ahsoka, explaining how she survived one of two Separatist-led massacres on the planet. A new clip from the short reveals that she managed to hold her own against General Grievous. Her story will go on to encompass her alliance with Grand Admiral Thrawn and her eventual status as the Magistrate of Calodan on the planet Corvus.

In a bit of trivia, General Grievous got an upgrade to his character model compared to the one used in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The final season of the show, created for Disney Plus, featured a brief recap of the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith that had happened at a certain point in the show’s narrative, featuring a short glimpse at the villain’s new character model. It appears that this same model is being used for Tales of the Empire, which means that that hard work did not go to waste.

Star Wars: Tales of the Empire covers previously-untold stories about the early era of the Galactic Empire, with narratives specifically focused on the fallen Jedi Padawan Barriss Offee and the surviving Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth and how their paths intersect with figures like Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader during the start of the “dark times”. All six episodes of the season will be released on Disney Plus on May 4, 2024.
