‘Andor’ Joins Top 10 Most Watched 2022 Series on Disney Plus According to New Analysis

Good news for fans of Andor as the first season has been placed as one of the most-viewed series on Disney Plus in 2022 in a new analysis from FlixPatrol, a company that tracks the latest streaming worldwide trends across all platforms.

The full report was then reported by WhatsOnDisneyPlus.com, who said:

As we close out 2022, we take a look at the most popular series globally on Disney+, which is tracked daily on the trending list and considers how popular a show is and how long it has been popular on Disney+.

The list was topped by The Simpsons, not surprising given its 32-season run that is available to stream on the service, but Star Wars fans may rejoice at finding that one series from a galaxy far, far away cracked the list. It is Tony Gilroy’s Andor, which came in at #9.

This is quite an achievement for Andor, particularly as it came out at the end of the year, which stacked the odds against it given how WhatsOnDisneyPlus run their analysis:

“This means that series released earlier in the year tend to perform better on this chart.”

Throughout its first run, Andor had reports of below-average ratings and low audience demand figures, but this analysis paints a different picture and gives a strong indication that it finished the year strong. The series was a slow build-up. but it delivered an explosive finale, setting up Cassian Andor as the Rebel leader and hero he will become. As far as we understand, though, early-season reports on its viewership and audience demand numbers were US-based only, while this new study seems to compile information from Disney Plus worldwide. We must stress, though, that this is coming from a third-party company and not from Disney Plus itself.

The first season has been highly praised by fans and critics alike. and this has been most evident recently in a slew of awards nominations for the series — perhaps most notably a nomination of Best Performance by an Actor for Diego Luna’s portrayal of Cassian. Perhaps this has been a contributing factor to the series’ high viewership on Disney Plus.

Fans will continue Cassian’s story on Disney Plus next year, as the second season is currently shooting in the UK and will hit the service in late 2024.
